SMC4 is a central component of the condensin complex, a complex required for conversion of interphase chromatin into mitotic-like condensed chromosomes. It forms a heterodimer with SMC2 within the condensin complex, alongside non-SMC regulatory subunits BRRN1/CAPH, CNAP1/CAPD2, and CAPG. Dysregulation of SMC4 has been implicated in cancer and developmental disorders, making it a valuable biomarker for research applications.

The kit offers a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 32pg/ml. Precision is supported by an intra-assay CV of 4.4% and an inter-assay CV of 9.2%. Linearity has been demonstrated across dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma. Recovery averages 100% for serum (range 94-106%) and 102% for plasma (range 96-108%). The assay shows specificity for natural and recombinant human SMC4 and is associated with UniProt accession Q9NTJ3.
