Description

This sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie is designed for the quantitative detection of human CYP17A1 (Steroid 17-alpha-hydroxylase/17,20 lyase) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. It uses a colorimetric ELISA detection method and is validated for human samples.

CYP17A1 is a key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of steroid hormones, including androgens and estrogens. It catalyses both the 17-alpha-hydroxylation and the 17,20-lyase reaction, converting pregnenolone and progesterone to their 17-alpha-hydroxylated products and subsequently to dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione, and is involved in sexual development during fetal life and at puberty. Dysregulation of CYP17A1 activity has been implicated in hormone-dependent cancers and metabolic disorders, and measuring CYP17A1 levels can provide insights into disease progression, treatment response, steroid metabolism and drug development research.

The assay reports a detection range of 0.312-20 mmol/L and a sensitivity of 0.156 mmol/L. Specificity covers natural and recombinant human CYP17A1, listed under UniProt P05093 with a molecular weight of 57,371 Da. The listed research area is cardiovascular, and the protein's subcellular location is the membrane. The kit is for research use only.
