Human Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase (SMPD1) ELISA Kit

A Sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative detection of human Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase (SMPD1), also referred to as acid sphingomyelinase (aSMase/ASM). The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human SMPD1 (UniProt P17405) and is intended for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Reported performance characteristics include a sensitivity of 0.23 ng/mL and a detection range of 0.78–50 ng/mL. Intra-assay precision is 4.2% and inter-assay precision is 7.1%. Linearity has been assessed in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma across serial dilutions, and recovery in serum averages 101% (range 95–107%) while plasma averages 103% (range 97–109%).

SMPD1 converts sphingomyelin to ceramide and also displays phospholipase C activity. The enzyme plays a central role in sphingolipid metabolism and is involved in regulating cell signalling, apoptosis and inflammation. Dysregulation of SMPD1 has been linked to Niemann-Pick disease types A and B and is being investigated in the context of metabolic and cardiovascular research. The kit is labelled for research use only.
