The Spartin protein, encoded by the SPG20 gene, plays a central role in endosomal membrane trafficking, cytokinesis, and lipid droplet metabolism. Loss-of-function mutations cause hereditary spastic paraplegia type 20 (SPG20), also known as Troyer syndrome, a neurological disorder characterized by progressive lower-limb spasticity, muscle wasting, and skeletal abnormalities. Assay Genie supplies this research-use-only immunoassay for quantitative measurement of human Spartin in blood-derived specimens, supporting studies in neurogenetics, neuromuscular disease modeling, and cellular trafficking research. Each kit ships as a complete package containing all reagents required to run the assay, including a pre-coated microplate, lyophilized standards, detection antibody, substrate solution, wash buffer, and stop solution. The Spartin target is an approximately 80 kDa protein first characterized in Old Order Amish families carrying a frameshift deletion. Researchers can apply the kit to investigate biomarker levels in patient cohorts, characterize disease models, or screen for altered Spartin expression under experimental conditions affecting the endolysosomal pathway. The assay is intended for in vitro research use only and is not validated for diagnostic or clinical applications.
