Sortilin 1 (SORT1) is a type I transmembrane receptor of the VPS10P domain family that functions as a sorting receptor between the trans-Golgi network, plasma membrane, and lysosomes. This Assay Genie immunoassay enables quantitative measurement of circulating and tissue-derived human SORT1 protein in research samples, supporting investigations into lipid metabolism, cardiovascular risk, and neuronal biology.
SORT1 directs intracellular trafficking of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) and binds several ligands including neurotensin, progranulin, and amyloid precursor protein. Genome-wide association studies have linked SORT1 variants to LDL cholesterol levels and coronary artery disease, making the receptor a target of interest in cardiometabolic research. The kit is supplied as a complete reagent set sufficient for 96 determinations in a microplate format and accepts cell lysates and tissue homogenates as validated input matrices.
Researchers studying sortilin-mediated endocytosis, apolipoprotein B secretion, or the SORT1-LDLR-PCSK9 axis in hepatocytes, neurons, or adipose tissue will find this assay useful for biomarker profiling, time-course experiments, and comparative studies across patient cohorts.
