Within the U1 snRNP, SNRPA recognizes stem-loop II of U1 snRNA and contributes to 5' splice site identification during pre-mRNA splicing. Quantitative measurement of SNRPA in human specimens supports investigations of spliceosome assembly, RNA processing mechanisms, and autoimmune disease serology, since anti-SNRPA reactivity has been reported in systemic lupus erythematosus and mixed connective tissue disease cohorts.
