Description

From Assay Genie, this Sandwich ELISA kit enables the in vitro quantitative determination of human Serotonin N-acetyltransferase (AANAT) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, using a colorimetric detection method. The kit is reactive with human samples and is supplied for research use only within the neurosciences research area.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.78-50ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.39ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 4.7% and inter-assay CV is 8.4%. Spike-and-recovery is 97% (range 91-103%) for serum and 99% (range 93-105%) for plasma. Linearity has been demonstrated for serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma across serial dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16. The assay shows specificity for natural and recombinant human Serotonin N-acetyltransferase.

Serotonin N-acetyltransferase, also known by the synonyms Aralkylamine N-acetyltransferase, AA-NAT, Serotonin acetylase and SNAT, is an acetyltransferase that controls the night/day rhythm of melatonin production in the pineal gland, catalysing the N-acetylation of serotonin into N-acetylserotonin in the penultimate step of melatonin synthesis. The enzyme is localised to the cytoplasm, has a reported molecular weight of 28,432 Da and is associated with UniProt accession Q16613. Dysregulation of AANAT has been linked to neurological and circadian disorders, and the protein has been associated with susceptibility to Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome.
