Built around the 27-amino-acid gastrointestinal peptide hormone first characterized by Bayliss and Starling in 1902, Assay Genie's competitive ELISA kit enables quantitative measurement of human Secretin in serum. Secretin is released by S cells of the duodenal mucosa in response to acidic chyme and acts through the secretin receptor (SCTR), a G-protein-coupled receptor expressed on pancreatic duct epithelium, where it drives bicarbonate-rich fluid secretion into the duodenum. The competitive immunoassay architecture pairs a pre-coated plate with a labelled detection antibody; endogenous Secretin in the sample competes with coated antigen for antibody binding, and the chromogenic signal is inversely proportional to analyte concentration. Each kit provides plate, calibrators, detection reagent, and substrate sufficient for 96 assays, so a complete standard curve can be generated alongside unknown specimens in one workflow. The procedure accepts serum collected by standard venipuncture and centrifugation, aligning with protocols commonly used in circulating peptide hormone studies. Investigators examining postprandial pancreatic physiology, duodenal S-cell biology, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, cystic-fibrosis-related digestive dysfunction, or the gut-pancreatic signaling axis can fit the kit into single-sample or small-cohort study designs. All components are supplied for research use only and are not cleared for diagnostic or clinical applications.
