Description

Designed for the quantitative detection of rhodopsin in human samples, this sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie is intended for research use only. The kit recognizes natural and recombinant human Rhodopsin, also known by the synonyms Opsin-2 and OPN2, and is reactive with human samples. Validated sample types include serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates, and other biological fluids.

Performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.312-20 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.166 ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is reported at 8.4% and inter-assay CV at 11.1%. Linearity was demonstrated across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, and 1:16, with serum (N=5) ranging from 95-106% to 84-92%, EDTA plasma from 101-112% to 101-113%, and heparin plasma from 98-108% to 91-101%. Recovery in serum averages 87% (range 81-93%) and in plasma averages 89% (range 83-95%).

Rhodopsin (UniProt P08100) is a G-protein coupled receptor and the light-absorbing visual pigment in rod photoreceptor cells, mediating vision in dim light. It exists as a homodimer and is synthesized in the inner segment of rod photoreceptor cells before transport to the rod outer segment. Defects in the RHO gene are associated with autosomal retinitis pigmentosa, congenital stationary night blindness, and Fundus Albipunctatus. Detection is by colorimetric ELISA read at 450 nm.
