Description

Assay Genie provides a Sandwich ELISA Kit for the quantitative measurement of the putative testis-specific prion protein (PRNT), also referred to as Protein M8, in human samples. The kit is intended for research use only and is designed to detect natural and recombinant human PRNT in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, and other biological fluids. According to the manufacturer, PRNT is a prion protein predominantly expressed in the testis and is described as a putative protein present only in primates and not in other mammals.

Performance characteristics reported by the manufacturer include a detection range of 0.312-20ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.194ng/mL. Intra-assay precision is stated as 4.1% CV and inter-assay precision as 7.5% CV. Spike-and-recovery testing returned an average of 98% (range 92-104%) for serum and 100% (range 94-106%) for plasma, with linearity assessed across serial dilutions in serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma. The assay is read colorimetrically on a microplate reader set to 450 nm.

PRNT is annotated as a secreted protein with a reported molecular weight of 10,756 Da (UniProt Q86SH4; NCBI Gene ID: 149830). Its investigation is positioned by the manufacturer as relevant to studies of prion biology and associated neurological conditions.
