PURB encodes the Pur-beta protein, a single-stranded DNA-binding transcriptional regulator that targets purine-rich elements near gene promoters and 5' untranslated regions. Pur-beta modulates neuronal development, smooth muscle differentiation, and cell cycle progression, and altered Pur-beta expression has been reported in several cancer cell lines.
