Protein Kinase R (PKR), encoded by the EIF2AK2 gene, is an interferon-induced serine/threonine kinase that serves as a central effector of innate antiviral immunity. Upon activation by double-stranded RNA and other stress signals, PKR phosphorylates eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha (eIF2α), suppressing global protein synthesis while selectively promoting translation of stress-response transcripts. This Assay Genie kit provides a quantitative immunoassay designed to measure human PKR in cell lysates and tissue homogenates, supporting laboratory research into interferon signaling, viral infection biology, stress granule formation, and translational control pathways.

Typical applications include profiling PKR expression in virus-infected cell cultures, monitoring eIF2α pathway activity in cellular stress-response models, and characterizing innate immune activation across disease-relevant tissue samples. The kit is supplied in a 96-assay configuration with reagents calibrated for colorimetric readout on standard microplate readers, and is intended for research use only.

Sample preparation follows standard lysis protocols appropriate to the biological matrix being analyzed, and the plate layout accommodates multiple experimental replicates alongside a standard curve. Investigators working on antiviral defense mechanisms, inflammation biology, or the molecular basis of translation regulation can apply the kit to studies ranging from cultured human cell lines to primary tissue specimens and cell lysates harvested under defined stimulation conditions.
