PTGDS, also known as prostaglandin D2 synthase, is a glutathione-independent enzyme that catalyses the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), a lipid mediator involved in inflammatory responses, smooth muscle contraction/relaxation, platelet aggregation and several central nervous system functions. Dysregulation of PTGDS has been linked to inflammatory disorders, neurological diseases and cancer, making it a useful biomarker for research.
