PCSK1, also known as PC1/3, is a calcium-dependent serine endoprotease that processes prohormone and neuropeptide precursors within the regulated secretory pathway of neuroendocrine cells. The enzyme cleaves substrate proteins at paired basic amino acid residues, converting inactive precursors into bioactive hormones including mature insulin, glucagon, and adrenocorticotropic hormone. PCSK1 is encoded on chromosome 5q15 and is expressed predominantly in pancreatic islets, the hypothalamus, and intestinal enteroendocrine cells. Loss-of-function mutations in the gene are linked to monogenic obesity, impaired prohormone processing, and glucose homeostasis defects, making circulating PCSK1 a relevant biomarker in metabolic and endocrine research.

This Assay Genie research-use-only ELISA kit supports quantitative measurement of human PCSK1 in laboratory samples. The kit is used in studies of type 2 diabetes, obesity, prohormone processing disorders, and related metabolic investigations, where quantitative analysis of PCSK1 levels contributes to understanding disease mechanisms. Each kit contains the pre-coated microplate, detection antibodies, standards, and reagents required to perform up to 96 individual reactions in a standard laboratory workflow. The procedure follows an in vitro assay format, and the kit is intended for research applications only, not for diagnostic or clinical use.
