Presepsin is a soluble N-terminal fragment of the cluster of differentiation 14 receptor (sCD14-ST), a roughly 13 kDa protein shed into the circulation when host phagocytes respond to bacterial challenge. The Presepsin ELISA from Assay Genie is a quantitative immunoassay built to measure this emerging sepsis biomarker in human blood-derived specimens, supporting research into early infection detection, severity grading, and therapeutic monitoring.

Circulating presepsin concentrations rise within hours of a systemic bacterial insult, often preceding conventional markers such as procalcitonin, C-reactive protein, and lactate. Investigators have used presepsin measurements to distinguish bacterial sepsis from non-infectious systemic inflammatory response syndrome, to predict ICU length of stay, and to track response to antimicrobial therapy. The marker has also been studied in neonatal and pediatric populations, in burn and trauma cohorts, and in emergency department triage workflows where rapid risk stratification matters.

The kit is supplied in a microplate format with up to 96 individual assay positions. Each plate is provided in a break-apart strip configuration, allowing laboratories to run partial plates as samples become available rather than waiting to fill a full plate. Reagents, standards, and consumables required to generate a standard curve and quantify unknowns by absorbance are included, along with detailed protocols in the package insert.

Applications span translational research on innate immune activation, biomarker validation cohorts, clinical trial support for novel anti-infective and immunomodulatory candidates, and comparative studies in veterinary or experimental models where sCD14-ST biology is conserved. The assay is intended for research use only and has not been cleared for diagnostic procedures.
