Description

A Sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative measurement of human Pigment epithelium-derived factor (SERPINF1, also known as PEDF) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method and is specific for both natural and recombinant human Pigment epithelium-derived factor.

The kit reports a detection range of 0.312–20 ng/ml with a sensitivity of 0.1 ng/mL. Precision is given as an intra-assay CV of 4.6% and an inter-assay CV of 7.9%. Reported linearity in serum is 93–103% at 1:2, 101–113% at 1:4, 83–93% at 1:8 and 114–123% at 1:16 dilution, with EDTA plasma values of 101–113%, 97–106%, 87–97% and 108–117% across the same dilutions, and heparin plasma values of 97–107%, 96–108%, 103–112% and 94–103%. Recovery is reported as 82% (range 80–88%) in serum and 84% (range 80–90%) in plasma.

SERPINF1 is a secreted neurotrophic protein that induces extensive neuronal differentiation in retinoblastoma cells and acts as a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis. Although it is a member of the serpin family, it does not undergo the S-to-R conformational transition characteristic of active serpins and exhibits no serine protease inhibitory activity. The protein is referenced under UniProt accession P36955 and carries the synonyms EPC-1, Serpin F1, PIG35 and PEDF. The product is intended for research use only.
