Podocin is a hairpin-like membrane protein localized at the slit diaphragm of glomerular podocytes, where it anchors nephrin and other slit-diaphragm components to the actin cytoskeleton. Encoded by the NPHS2 gene, loss-of-function variants in podocin drive autosomal recessive steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome. The Assay Genie podocin ELISA kit quantifies this protein in research samples, supporting studies of glomerular filtration barrier integrity, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and diabetic nephropathy.
Compatible specimens include urine, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants, enabling translational workflows from rodent disease models to human biopsy samples. The kit ships as a 96 assays box with reagents for absorbance-based quantification on a standard microplate reader. Each plate is provided as a single-use research use only format intended for laboratory investigation of podocyte biology, biomarker discovery in proteinuric kidney disease, and validation of NPHS2 pathway targets.
