PDGFB is a growth factor that plays an essential role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, cell migration, survival and chemotaxis. It acts as a potent mitogen for cells of mesenchymal origin and is required for normal proliferation and recruitment of pericytes and vascular smooth muscle cells, as well as for normal blood vessel development and kidney glomeruli development. The protein plays an important role in wound healing, and its signalling is modulated by the formation of heterodimers with PDGFA. PDGFB is secreted and released by platelets upon wounding, and exists as an antiparallel disulfide-linked homodimer or as a heterodimer with PDGFA.

The assay offers a detection range of 31.2-2000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 15pg/mL, with an intra-assay CV of 4.2% and inter-assay CV of 8.1%. Recovery is 95% (89-101%) for serum and 97% (91-103%) for plasma. The kit is suitable for serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.
