Researchers studying ocular biology, tumor angiogenesis, cardiovascular remodeling, and metabolic disease regularly quantify PEDF (Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor) as a biomarker of neuroprotective and anti-angiogenic signaling. This 50 kDa serpin-family glycoprotein, first characterized from human retinal pigment epithelial cells, has lost protease-inhibitory function but retains neurotrophic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-vasculogenic activity relevant to age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, wound healing, and obesity-linked insulin resistance.

This Assay Genie colorimetric immunoassay is configured for 96 assays in a microplate format and is intended for in vitro research use only. It supports quantitative measurement of native PEDF across human specimens prepared as serum samples, plasma samples, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, or cell culture supernatants. Researchers apply the kit to profile PEDF secretion in cell culture models, to compare circulating PEDF in clinical cohorts, and to assess tissue-level PEDF expression in biopsies and animal model tissues.

The workflow follows standard ELISA procedures and the reagents should be refrigerated upon arrival. Each microplate yields 96 individual determinations, supporting medium-throughput biomarker studies in academic and translational laboratories.
