The Assay Genie kit quantifies phosphoacetylglucosamine mutase, a cytoplasmic enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of N-acetylglucosamine-6-phosphate to N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphate within the hexosamine biosynthesis pathway. This step controls production of UDP-GlcNAc, the donor substrate used for N- and O-linked glycosylation of proteins and lipids in many cell types.

PGM3 activity is studied in the context of congenital disorders of glycosylation, hyper-IgE syndrome, immune cell signaling, and metabolic regulation. The kit supports immunology, glycobiology, and cell biology laboratories investigating glycan-dependent pathways, ER-associated quality control, and protein folding mechanisms.
