Human Periaxin (PRX) ELISA Kit

Manufactured by Assay Genie, this sandwich ELISA kit enables quantitative measurement of periaxin (PRX) in human samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The kit detects natural and recombinant human periaxin. Periaxin is a scaffolding protein that functions as part of a dystroglycan complex in Schwann cells and within EZR- and AHNAK-containing complexes in eye lens fibre cells, where it contributes to the maintenance of the peripheral myelin sheath required for normal nerve impulse transmission and sensory perception.

According to the manufacturer's performance data, the assay has a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.082 ng/mL. Precision is reported as an intra-assay CV of 6.1% and an inter-assay CV of 11.3%. Linearity was tested at 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 dilutions in serum (107-117%, 108-117%, 100-110%, 107-117%), EDTA plasma (107-117%, 105-115%, 88-98%, 101-111%) and heparin plasma (97-97%, 110-120%, 108-118%, 99-109%). Recovery averages 97% (range 91-103%) in serum and 99% (range 93-105%) in plasma.

Beyond its assay characteristics, periaxin contains two PDZ domains and is required for normal transport of MBP mRNA from perinuclear to paranodal regions, remyelination after nerve injury, normal Schwann cell elongation, the proper length of internodes between nodes of Ranvier, formation of Cajal bands and Schmidt-Lanterman incisures, and normal eye lens fibre cell morphology. It localises to the cell membrane and cell junctions. Mutations in the PRX gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy type 4F and Dejerine-Sottas neuropathy, supporting its value as a biomarker in neurological research.
