PDP2 is the catalytic subunit of the mitochondrial phosphatase that re-activates the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex by removing inhibitory phosphates from the E1α subunit, a Mg²⁺-dependent reaction that gates the entry of glycolytic carbon into the tricarboxylic acid cycle.
