Description

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the precise and reliable detection of human ornithine decarboxylase (ODC1) levels in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids. The kit uses a colorimetric detection method and is intended for research use only, supporting studies in cell biology and related fields where monitoring ODC1 can provide insight into polyamine biosynthesis, cancer, inflammation and neurodegenerative disease research.

The assay demonstrates a detection range of 0.625-40ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.22ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 5.9% and inter-assay CV is 10.2%. Linearity has been validated across serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma at 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 dilutions, with recovery averaging 102% for serum (range 96-108%) and 104% for plasma (range 98-110%). Specificity covers natural and recombinant human ornithine decarboxylase.

Ornithine decarboxylase catalyzes the first and rate-limiting step of polyamine biosynthesis, converting ornithine into putrescine, the precursor for the polyamines spermidine and spermine. The active enzyme functions as a homodimer, with the active sites constructed of residues from both monomers. The ODC1 gene is located on chromosome 2p25 (UniProt P11926, NCBI Gene ID 4953).
