Description

This Sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie is designed for the quantitative detection of human Ornithine carbamoyltransferase, mitochondrial (OTC), also known as ornithine transcarbamylase or OTCase. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method and is reactive with human samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

The kit provides a detection range of 3.12-200 U/L and a sensitivity of 1.5 U/L. Reported precision is 4.6% intra-assay CV and 8.9% inter-assay CV. In dilution linearity testing, serum samples (n=5) returned 89-99% at 1:2, 107-117% at 1:4, 93-102% at 1:8 and 98-106% at 1:16, with EDTA plasma ranging 89-117% and heparin plasma 81-117% across the same dilutions. Spike-and-recovery was 100% (range 94-106%) for serum and 102% (range 96-108%) for plasma. The assay is specific to natural and recombinant human OTC and is intended for research use only.

OTC is a mitochondrial matrix enzyme (Uniprot P00480; EC 2.1.3.3; homotrimer) that catalyses a key step in the urea cycle. The kit from Assay Genie is suited to studies of urea cycle disorders, including ornithine carbamoyltransferase deficiency — an X-linked condition (Xp21.1) that can lead to hyperammonemia — as well as liver and metabolic disease research.
