Description

From Assay Genie, this competitive ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of human Opiorphin (Opi) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method and is reactive with human samples, with stated specificity for natural and recombinant human Opiorphin. Reported detection range is 0.156-10 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.078 ng/mL, and intra-assay and inter-assay CVs of 4.9% and 7.8% respectively. The kit is intended for research use only.

Opiorphin is an endogenous peptide first isolated from human saliva. It is a five-amino acid polypeptide (Gln-Arg-Phe-Ser-Arg) originating from the N-terminal region of the PROL1 protein. The compound inhibits enkephalin-degrading proteases, including neutral ecto-endopeptidase (MME) and ecto-aminopeptidase N (ANPEP), thereby prolonging the action of endogenous opioid peptides involved in pain regulation. Initial research in mice has shown a pain-relieving effect greater than that of morphine, and opiorphin may also exert anti-depressive action.
