Quantifying Olfactomedin-1, a secreted glycoprotein of the olfactomedin family, this 96 Assays immunoassay from Assay Genie measures human OLFM1 in serum or plasma samples by way of a colorimetric reaction. OLFM1 is broadly expressed in neural tissue, where it participates in neuronal differentiation and the patterning of neural circuits. Original genetic studies linked sequence variants in the OLFM1 locus to primary open-angle glaucoma, while more recent reports describe altered OLFM1 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma and in breast cancer cell migration, making the protein a candidate biomarker across neurobiology, ophthalmology research, and oncology workflows. Researchers use this kit alongside immunohistochemistry, western blot, and PCR-based expression profiling to triangulate OLFM1 levels between circulating protein, tissue transcript, and protein localization. The kit ships with a pre-coated microplate, assay buffer, detection antibody, and standard curve reagents sufficient for the indicated 96 Assays of sample, with absorbance read on a standard microplate reader. Supplied for research use only and not validated as a diagnostic device, the kit should be stored refrigerated and protected from light between uses.
