Nucleocytoplasmic transport depends on a family of FG-repeat nucleoporins, and NUP50 is among the most functionally significant members of the nuclear pore complex. Researchers studying nuclear envelope biology, importin-mediated cargo translocation, and disease models in which nuclear pore composition is altered can use this immunoassay from Assay Genie to quantify the target in human biological specimens.

NUP50 is an approximately 50 kDa protein that localizes to the nuclear basket of the vertebrate nuclear pore complex and participates in the terminal steps of importin-alpha-mediated nuclear protein import, facilitating cargo release and recycling of transport factors back to the cytoplasm. Aberrant NUP50 expression has been reported in hepatocellular carcinoma and in subtypes of breast cancer, where changes in nuclear pore stoichiometry can influence cell proliferation, signal transduction, and the nuclear import of oncogenic cargoes. Several viral pathogens also exploit NUP50-dependent import pathways, making this nucleoporin a target of interest in virology research.

The kit is configured in a 96 Assays plate format with colorimetric readout and is supplied for research use only, compatible with human serum or plasma specimens as well as cell lysate preparations from cultured cell lines. Components are supplied in individual vials for single use, and the kit should be stored under refrigerated conditions to preserve reagent stability across the shelf life. Researchers are advised to aliquot reagents where appropriate and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles to maintain assay performance.
