NTAN1 (Protein N-terminal asparagine amidohydrolase) is an N-terminal nucleophile hydrolase that converts N-terminal asparagine (and to a lesser extent glutamine) into aspartate, feeding substrates into the N-end rule pathway of ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation. The enzyme also associates with APAF1, linking it to apoptotic signaling, so quantifying NTAN1 abundance is relevant to research on cellular stress responses, tumor cell biology, and post-translational protein turnover.
