Human Neutrophil defensin 1 (DEFA1) ELISA Kit

Assay Genie's sandwich ELISA is designed for quantitative detection of human Neutrophil defensin 1 (DEFA1), a secreted antimicrobial peptide that participates in the innate immune response and acts as a biomarker for inflammatory conditions. The assay is intended for research use only and has been validated for use with human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, recognising both natural and recombinant forms of the protein.

Reported performance specifications include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL, a sensitivity of 33pg/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.3% and an inter-assay CV of 8.6%. Dilutional linearity has been demonstrated in serum (95-121% across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions), EDTA plasma (80-109%) and heparin plasma (97-121%), with recovery of 97% (range 91-103%) in serum and 99% (range 93-105%) in plasma.

The DEFA1 target (UniProt P59665) is a secreted dimer with antibacterial, fungicide and antiviral activities, thought to act by permeabilizing microbial plasma membranes. The colorimetric assay is read at 450 nm following incubation with TMB substrate and stop solution.
