Description

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative measurement of human Neuronal acetylcholine receptor subunit alpha-4 (CHRNA4) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The kit uses an ELISA-based colorimetric detection method and is intended for research use only, particularly in studies of neuronal acetylcholine receptor function, neurotransmission, and neurological disorders such as epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease, where CHRNA4 dysregulation has been implicated.

Key specifications include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 39.7pg/mL. The assay shows specificity for natural and recombinant human CHRNA4 (synonym: NACRA4; UniProt P43681). CHRNA4 is a ligand-gated ion channel subunit that, upon acetylcholine binding, undergoes a conformational change leading to opening of an ion-conducting channel across the plasma membrane permeable to sodium ions. The alpha-4 subunit combines with beta-2 or beta-4 to form functional neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and the protein localises to the postsynaptic cell membrane and cell junctions at synapses.

Reagents supplied with the kit include a dismountable ELISA microplate, lyophilised standard, sample and assay diluents, detection reagents, wash buffer, and stop solution. The kit is classified within the Neurosciences research area and is suited to investigating the role of CHRNA4 in neurobiology, drug development, and disease pathology.
