Neuromedin-U Background

Neuromedin-U (NmU) is a highly conserved neuropeptide originally isolated from porcine spinal cord. It is widely expressed in the central nervous system and in peripheral tissues including the gastrointestinal tract, pituitary gland, and immune cell populations. The principal human isoform, NmU-25, signals through two G-protein-coupled receptors termed NMUR1 and NMUR2 and is implicated in satiety regulation, energy expenditure, stress-axis activity, smooth muscle contractility, and innate immune responses.

Research Applications
