Neuromedin B (NMB) is a decapeptide of the bombesin-like peptide family originally isolated from porcine spinal cord, with broad expression in the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and several neuroendocrine tumors. This Assay Genie competitive ELISA quantifies endogenous NMB in human research samples by allowing native peptide in the specimen to compete with a labelled NMB conjugate for binding to capture antibody immobilised on the supplied microplate, with signal developed via streptavidin-HRP and a chromogenic substrate read on a standard plate reader.

The reagents supplied with the kit include pre-coated microwells, lyophilised NMB reference standards, biotinylated detection reagent, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, wash concentrate, assay buffer, chromogenic substrate, and stop solution. Reconstituted standards and any unused diluted conjugate should be aliquoted and stored frozen to limit freeze-thaw cycles; the sealed microplate pouch should be kept refrigerated between uses, and all assay components brought to room temperature before each run.

Typical applications include studies of NMB signalling through the bombesin receptor subtype 1 (NMBR), gastrointestinal smooth-muscle contractility, satiety and thermoregulation pathways, and the autocrine growth loops described in small-cell lung carcinoma and other neuroendocrine tumour lines. A sample volume of 50 uL per well is recommended for both serum and cell culture supernatant, and the assay is intended for in vitro research use only.
