The NEIL-1 (Nei Endonuclease VIII-like 1) protein is a DNA glycosylase central to base excision repair, excising oxidized lesions such as 8-hydroxyguanine from genomic DNA. Quantifying NEIL-1 levels in tissue homogenates supports research into oxidative stress, genomic instability, and tumor biology, where altered NEIL-1 expression has been linked to glioma, colorectal, and breast cancer progression. The Assay Genie kit uses a human-specific capture antibody and shows no significant cross-reactivity with the homologous NEIL-2 or NEIL-3 glycosylases.
