By assisting maturation of Fe-S cluster-containing proteins, NARFL influences DNA replication and repair, mitochondrial respiratory chain function, and ribosome biogenesis, making it a useful biomarker in studies of iron homeostasis, oxidative stress, and cytosolic Fe-S biogenesis disorders.
