Description

A sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie for the quantitative detection of human Myelin P2 protein (PMP2), also known as peripheral myelin protein 2. The assay uses a colorimetric method and accepts serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants, and other biological fluids. It is listed under the cardiovascular research area and is supplied for research use only.

Performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL, sensitivity of 0.078 ng/mL, intra-assay CV of 7.9%, and inter-assay CV of 10.2%. Specificity covers natural and recombinant human Myelin P2 protein. Recovery averages 95% in serum (range 89-101%) and 97% in plasma (range 91-103%). Linearity in serum (N=5) spans 106-115% at 1:2, 100-110% at 1:4, 109-119% at 1:8, and 89-99% at 1:16; EDTA plasma (N=5) spans 101-111%, 102-112%, 87-96%, and 89-99% across the same dilutions; heparin plasma (N=5) spans 98-108%, 102-111%, 85-94%, and 110-120%.

The PMP2 target (UniProt P02689) is a 14,909 Da cytoplasmic monomer belonging to the calycin superfamily and fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family, encoded on chromosome 8q21.3-q22.1. The protein localises to the cytoplasm and myelin sheath and is implicated in lipid transport in Schwann cells with potential cholesterol binding. Dysregulation has been associated with multiple sclerosis and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
