Human Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2 (SMAD2) ELISA Kit

A sandwich ELISA kit from Assay Genie designed for the quantitative detection of human Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 2 (SMAD2). SMAD2 is a receptor-regulated SMAD (R-SMAD) that functions as an intracellular signal transducer and transcriptional modulator activated by TGF-beta and activin type 1 receptor kinases, and is a key transcription factor in the TGF-β signaling pathway. Dysregulation of the TGF-β pathway has been linked to cancer, fibrosis, and cardiovascular disorders, making SMAD2 a target of interest in cell biology, cancer biology, and molecular signaling research. The kit is intended for use with human samples and is suited to serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids.

On formation of the SMAD2/SMAD4 complex, SMAD2 binds the TRE element in the promoter region of many TGF-beta-regulated genes and activates transcription; it may also act as a tumor suppressor in colorectal carcinoma. The protein is monomeric in the absence of TGF-beta and forms heterodimers in its presence, localizing to both cytoplasm and nucleus and migrating to the nucleus upon TGF-beta stimulation when complexed with SMAD4.
