The mGluR2 receptor, encoded by the GRM2 gene, is a Group II metabotropic glutamate receptor predominantly expressed on presynaptic nerve terminals in the central nervous system. It modulates glutamatergic neurotransmission through Gi/o protein coupling, and its dysregulation has been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, depression, and epilepsy.
