Description

A high-quality sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie for the precise quantitative measurement of Melanocortin receptor 5 (MC5R) in human specimens. The kit is intended for research use only and accepts serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. It is reactive with human samples and shows specificity for natural and recombinant human Melanocortin receptor 5 (synonyms MC-2, MC5-R), with the product falling within the Neurosciences research area.

MC5R is a key receptor involved in regulating melanogenesis — the process by which melanocytes produce melanin — and plays a crucial role in skin pigmentation, hair colour and other physiological processes. Dysregulation of MC5R has been linked to various skin disorders, making it a critical biomarker for studying these conditions and developing potential treatments. Functionally, MC5R is a G-protein coupled receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH, with activity mediated by G proteins that activate adenylate cyclase. The associated UniProt accession is P33032.

Performance characteristics quoted directly from the manufacturer's datasheet include a detection range of 0.78–50 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.2 ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 4.1%, and an inter-assay CV of 7.9%. Detection is by colorimetric ELISA.
