This Assay Genie immunoassay enables quantitative measurement of Methylmalonyl-CoA Epimerase (MCEE) in human serum or plasma research specimens. MCEE catalyzes the epimerization of D-methylmalonyl-CoA to L-methylmalonyl-CoA, an essential step in propionate catabolism that funnels odd-chain fatty acids, cholesterol side chains, and the amino acids valine, isoleucine, methionine, and threonine into the Krebs cycle. Loss-of-function variants in the MCEE gene cause methylmalonic aciduria, a rare autosomal recessive organic acidemia characterized by accumulation of methylmalonic acid in patient samples. Investigators studying inborn errors of metabolism, vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency, and the broader propionate pathway can apply this 96-assay plate-format kit to assess enzyme expression across case cohorts and matched controls.
