Also known by the synonyms MBL-associated serine protease 2, Mannose-binding protein-associated serine protease 2, and MASP-2, the target is a secreted serum protease that plays an important role in activation of the complement system via mannose-binding lectin; after auto-catalytic cleavage it cleaves C2 and C4, leading to their activation and formation of C3 convertase. The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human MASP2, with reactivity confirmed for human samples, and is intended for research use only within the immunology research area.

Manufacturer-reported performance figures include a detection range of 0.156-10ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.098ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.0%, and an inter-assay CV of 9.9%. Linearity has been characterised in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16. Recovery is reported for serum (average 85%, range 80-91%) and plasma (average 87%, range 81-93%).
