A secreted extracellular matrix glycoprotein, LTBP1 (Latent-transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 1) plays a central role in the folding, secretion, and extracellular targeting of transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1). It has been investigated in fibrosis research, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as in connective tissue biology and oncology, where altered LTBP1 expression has been reported in patient cohorts.
