Lipocalin-1, also known as tear lipocalin, tear prealbumin, Von Ebner gland protein, Tlc, TP, VEG protein or VEGP, is a secreted protein of the lipocalin family that can bind a wide range of ligands and has been linked to sensory perception of taste. The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human Lipocalin-1, is intended for research use only, and uses a microplate reader at 450 nm for detection.

Manufacturer performance data include a detection range of 0.625-40ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.23ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 6.5% and an inter-assay CV of 8.7%. Reported linearity across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions is 96-106%, 102-112%, 81-93% and 98-107% for serum (N=5); 93-103%, 108-117%, 93-102% and 93-103% for EDTA plasma (N=5); and 94-103%, 87-99%, 91-99% and 92-102% for heparin plasma (N=5).
