Human Lactoperoxidase (LPO) ELISA Kit

From Assay Genie, this sandwich-format ELISA kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of lactoperoxidase in human samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The assay uses a colorimetric detection method, is reactive with human samples, and is specific for natural and recombinant human lactoperoxidase.

Lactoperoxidase is an enzyme involved in the innate immune system that plays a role in protecting the body against microbial infections. The protein is secreted from salivary, mammary and other mucosal glands and functions as a natural antibacterial agent. It utilises hydrogen peroxide and thiocyanate (SCN) to generate the antimicrobial substance hypothiocyanous acid (HOSCN) and may contribute to airway host defence against infection. Lactoperoxidase levels have been implicated in inflammatory diseases, respiratory illnesses and oral health issues, making the molecule a biomarker of interest in related research.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.78-50 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.34 ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 4.7%, and an inter-assay CV of 6.3%. Linearity has been evaluated in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma at dilutions from 1:2 to 1:16, and recovery averages 91% (range 85-97%) in serum and 93% (range 87-99%) in plasma.
