KIF5A is the neuronal heavy-chain isoform of kinesin-1, the microtubule-based motor protein responsible for anterograde axonal transport of membrane-bound organelles and protein cargo in neurons. Mutations in the KIF5A gene are causally linked to several neurological disorders, most notably hereditary spastic paraplegia type 10 (SPG10), Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2 (CMT2), and certain forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, making quantitative measurement of KIF5A protein levels highly relevant for neuroscience and neurodegeneration research.

This Assay Genie ELISA kit enables researchers to quantify human KIF5A in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and other sample matrices using an absorbance-based quantitative immunoassay. The kit format supports up to 96 assays and is intended for research use only, providing a reproducible tool for studies of motor protein expression in neuronal cell models, patient-derived tissue samples, and experimental systems where altered axonal transport is being investigated.

Applications include characterization of KIF5A expression changes in disease models, comparative studies between healthy and pathological neural tissue, profiling of cell lines with engineered KIF5A alterations, and screening of experimental compounds that may affect motor protein levels. The plate-based protocol is compatible with standard microplate readers, and the included reagents are sufficient to run multiple sample sets in parallel while maintaining refrigerated storage conditions for stability.
