KIF26B is a non-motor member of the kinesin superfamily, classified within the kinesin-6 subfamily, that lacks processive microtubule motility and instead functions as a signalling scaffold regulating cell adhesion, migration, and cytokinesis. The protein is required for ureteric bud branching during kidney organogenesis, and altered KIF26B expression has been reported in breast, gastric, and colorectal tumour tissue, making it a molecule of growing interest for oncology biomarker studies, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition research, and developmental signalling investigations. Polymorphisms in KIF26B have also been linked to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in genome-wide association studies.
