Quantitative measurement of human Keratin 14 (KRT14) protein is supported by this ELISA Kit from Assay Genie, formatted as a 96-reaction microplate with a colorimetric readout. KRT14 is a type I cytokeratin expressed primarily in the basal layer of stratified squamous epithelia, where it partners with KRT5 to form the intermediate filament cytoskeleton of basal keratinocytes. Tracking KRT14 levels enables research into epidermal biology, wound healing, keratinocyte differentiation, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in oncology.

The kit is intended for research use only and accepts serum-derived specimens, plasma samples, prepared tissue homogenates, and other biological sample matrices commonly evaluated in dermatology and epithelial cell studies. It is reactive with human samples, supporting translational investigations of human-derived material.

Investigators studying epidermolysis bullosa simplex, where dominant-negative mutations in KRT14 compromise keratin filament integrity, can use the assay to monitor protein expression in patient-derived keratinocytes or organotypic skin models. Additional applications include squamous cell carcinoma biology, mucosal epithelial research, and stem cell characterization where basal-cell identity markers are relevant. All reagents required to complete the immunoassay workflow on a standard microplate reader are included.
