According to the manufacturer's specifications, the kit has a detection range of 31.2-2000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 15pg/mL. Reported precision figures include an intra-assay CV of 5.2% and an inter-assay CV of 6.8%. The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human Interleukin-12 subunit alpha, a secreted cytokine that acts as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhances the lytic activity of NK/lymphokine-activated killer cells, and stimulates IFN-gamma production by resting PBMC. The IL-12A subunit forms a disulfide-linked heterodimer with IL12B, known as interleukin-12.

Reported linearity across dilutions (1:2 to 1:16) ranges from 101-115% in serum, 85-120% in EDTA plasma, and 89-124% in heparin plasma. Recovery averages 90% (range 84-96%) in serum and 92% (range 86-98%) in plasma.
