Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine central to Th1-type immune responses, secreted primarily by activated CD4+ T cells and natural killer cells, and quantitative measurement of this cytokine underpins research in vaccine development, infection models, autoimmune disease, transplant immunology, and tumor immunology.
