The IDUA gene on chromosome 4p16.3 encodes alpha-L-iduronidase, a lysosomal hydrolase that removes terminal alpha-L-iduronate residues from glycosaminoglycans including heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate. Loss of this enzyme's activity underlies mucopolysaccharidosis type I (MPS I), the disease spectrum that includes Hurler, Hurler-Scheie, and Scheie syndromes. This Assay Genie ELISA kit supports quantitative measurement of alpha-L-iduronidase protein in human cell lysates and tissue homogenates, enabling research into enzyme replacement therapy efficacy, gene therapy transgene expression, residual enzyme levels in patient fibroblasts, and genotype-phenotype correlations across IDUA mutations.

Configured in a 96 assays plate format, the kit provides capture antibodies, standards, and detection reagents for research use only. Cell lysates from cultured patient or control fibroblasts are common input material, alongside tissue homogenates prepared from relevant mouse models of MPS I. Researchers studying newborn screening validation, biomarker discovery, and pharmacodynamic response to investigational therapies find this quantitative readout useful for tracking enzyme levels across experimental conditions and treatment time points.
