The Humanin peptide (encoded within the MT-RNR2 mitochondrial locus) is a 24-amino-acid signaling peptide with documented cytoprotective and anti-apoptotic activity. First characterized in surviving neurons from Alzheimer's disease brain tissue, circulating humanin has since been investigated as a biomarker candidate in metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, and age-related cognitive decline research.

This Assay Genie immunoassay is supplied as a 96 Assays microplate kit with chromogenic substrate readout. A human-specific capture antibody directed against the mature 24-amino-acid humanin sequence is provided, with no significant cross-reactivity reported with homologous mitochondrial peptides. Results are quantified against a recombinant humanin standard curve.
